About the Young Marines

The Young Marines is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) youth education program for boys and girls ages 8 through high school.  The program focuses on character building through a combination of self discipline, teamwork and leadership, and promotes a healthy, drug free lifestyle.

Although the Young Marines is the U.S. Marine Corps official program to the Department of Defense for youth drug demand reduction, the Young Marines is not a recruiting force for the U.S. Marine Corps.  We strive to instill the core values of Honor, Courage and Commitment adopted by the U.S. Marine Corps to each of our members.

The Young Marine Vision

To impact America's future by providing a unique youth leadership program which nurtures and develops citizens in our communities, instilling the core values of Honor, Courage and Commitment.

Drug Demand Reduction

An effective drug demand reduction program is an essential tool within the Young Marines program.  The value of the program is limited only by each individual's imagination and their commitment to reducing the abuse of alcohol, tobacco and drugs that surround them.  Adults must strive to be the positive role models expected of them.

Our youth look to them for guidance, strength and protection, yet they still require time and room to grow, experience life, push the limits and be more independent.  Our youth remain conflicted between wanting greater independence and needing greater security.  Whatever they do not receive from adults they will seek from peers.  Be available, do not smother and respect their space - but be straight, firm and open - remember to listen.  Our youth may talk more openly about sensitive topics with someone who is not their parent or guardian.
